UCSF Study Shows Using Lotion Decreases Inflammation

why use lotion

Moisturize the largest organ in in your body (your skin), and just like that you decrease your chance of disease?! Scientists at UC San Francisco have found that using body oils and lotions decreases cytokines in the blood. This lowers inflammation.1

Harvard Medical School has shown that chronic inflammation is the cause of many diseases, including coronary artery disease, stroke, diabetes, cancer, and Alzheimer's. It's also been implicated in auto-immune diseases such as lupus and rheumatoid arthritis, even cancer.2 Inflammation is a process that includes the white blood cells and the chemicals that they produce: antibodies and cytokines.3

Mao-Qiang Man, author for the UCSF study says, "Very minor inflammation can affect the whole body." According to this March 2019 study, you can reduce your risk of these diseases by simply using body lotion daily. In the experiment, a group of veterans used moisturizer daily and another group used no moisturizer. After just a couple of weeks, the group that used lotion showed a decrease in the inflammation causing cytokines.

Since your skin is the largest organ in your body, a little decrease of inflammation can lead to major health benefits.

Let me take this a step further. What you put on your SKIN affects your BLOOD. Wow, think about that for a minute. Something that can cause chronic inflammation is long-term exposure to irritants, such as industrial chemicals.4 This means you should really take the moisturizer you put on your body seriously. Get the cleanest you can and use it consistently.

At Pharmacist Made, we have several choices for moisturizer. Rose Cream is 50% oil, making it one of the most moisturizing creams on the market. Sweetest Day Body Lotion and Cherry Blossom Body Lotion are more of an everyday lotion, though still loaded with hydrating ingredients. All three of these use natural ingredients. But as with any product containing a water based ingredient, it has to be preserved (mold is disgusting AND unhealthy). I chose a green tea derived preservative. If you want preservative free, why not try one of my body oils or a solid lotion bar? Sunshine Body Oil is formulated to suck right into your skin, without leaving you greasy at all. The others are best after a bath or shower. To find ALL of these products, visit the for the Body section.
